Electoral violence has gone on after the 9 November presidential and legislative contests. Ricardo de León of the former guerrillas' Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteco (URNG) was gunned down by assailants in the capital Guatemala City at the weekend. De León, who failed in his bid to get elected to the legislative assembly, was shot from the windows of a car as he was jogging.
