GDP growth still running strong. GDP growth in the second quarter of the year reached 10.1%, raising the accumulated rate for the first half to 9.1%. Goods-producing sectors expanded by 12.6% in the second quarter, led by agriculture; the services did so by 8%. Consumption by the public sector was up 10.6%, very nearly twice the rate of expansion of private consumption. Last year GDP grew by 9%; for this year the economy ministry has forecast 6%, while private economists expect 7.5%. This will make 2005 the third consecutive year of strong growth since the crisis that bottomed in 2002.
