The guerrillas of the Ejército Popular Revolucionario (EPR) surprised most analysts with a communiqué, published in this week's issue of news magazine Proceso, in which they admit lying about their provenance (for 'strategic' reasons) and complain that the Zapatistas had shunned their repeated efforts to work out a joint strategy.
