ARGENTINA | Growth & employment up, poverty down. Economic activity in July was up 0.7% on June, taking the seven-month figure to a level 8.9% higher that in the same period of 2004. In other words the rapid growth recorded in the first half is continuing into the second. The national statistical institute, Indec, also reports that the proportion of the population living below the poverty line at the end of the first half was 38.5%, or 5.8 percentage points less than a year earlier.
