After a period of truce, the coordinator of the landless movement (MST), João Pedro Stédile, yesterday threatened the government with land invasions across the country. According to Stédile, the invasions, codenamed operation 'Red April', 'will bring hell to the countryside'. The MST chose April for the protests to commemorate the massacre of 19 sem-terra (landless) workers in Eldorado dos Carajás in 1996.
