The Coordinadora Democrática (CD) finally agreed, on 27 April, to support the process of double-checking signatures it claims to have gathered on its petitions calling for a recall referendum on President Hugo Chávez . The decision is a victory for the moderates in the opposition. The hardliners wanted neither a double-check nor a referendum run by the Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), which is responsible for the whole process.
