MEXICO | Hurricane impact reassessed. The hurricanes Stan and Wilma, which hit the south and south-east of the country, have cased damage which it will cost more than R$30bn (US$2.7bn) to repair, according to President Vicente Fox. He said on 2 November that the emergency phase was over and that reconstruction was now beginning. The government has announced job-creation schemes in the peninsula of Yucatán and the state of Chiapas - the latter having been the hardest hit by Stan - and tax relief for businesses in those regions.
