GUATEMALA | Hurricane damage borders on US$1bn. A technical team sent by Eclac has estimated that hurricane Stan, which hit 14 of Guatemala's 22 departments in early October, caused damage and losses of about US$983m. The largest sums were recorded in the area of infrastructure: damages estimated at US$258m and losses of US$189m. In the productive sectors the corresponding estimates were US$40m and US$228m. In the areas of health, education and housing, the estimates were US$77m and US$72m respectively.
