Development: On 2 August President Ricardo Lagos granted a pardon to Dante Ramí­rez Soto, who was serving a ten-year sentence for terrorist offences. Lagos' move came a day before the chamber of deputies today (3 August) debates a motion to pardon those imprisoned as political prisoners between January 1989 and January 1998.
