PARAGUAY: Domí­nguez has the edge in contest with Nicanor Duarte

Paraguayan President Nicanor Duarte may fail in his attempt to seek reelection as leader of the ruling Colorado party. Businessman Osvaldo Domí­nguez has formally registered as a rival and the polls suggest he is already ahead of Duarte - to whom he lost narrowly in 2002. On the slate of Domí­nguez's Unión Nacional Republicana faction is his nephew, Alfredo (Goli) Stroessner, grandson of the exiled former dictator [WR-05-47].
