Arias agrees to review Cafta-DR. President-elect Oscar Arias has invited his narrowly defeated rival Ottón Solís to go to Washington, accompanied by vice-presidents elect Laura Chinchilla and Kevin Casas, to see whether some aspects of the free-trade agreement with the US can be renegotiated before sending it to congress for ratification. Arias has been strongly in favour of prompt ratification (Costa Rica is the only signatory of Cafta-DR that has not yet ratified the deal), while Solís has insisted that several aspects were badly negotiated and must be reviewed.
