Tracking Trends

COSTA RICA | Tourism hits new high. Last year Costa Rica received 1.7m visitors who generated revenues of US$1.6bn. This, notes the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo, represents increases of 49% and 47% respectively since 2002, when regional tourism began to pick up after the slump of 2001. Tourism has come to account for 7.4% of GDP; revenues from tourism are equivalent to 21.5% of those generated by exports.
