MEXICO | GDP growth higher than expected. The finance ministry reports that GDP growth in the first quarter was 5.5%, more than half-a-point higher than the consensus forecast of economists surveyed regularly by the central bank. This performance has led many in government to consider upgrading their forecast for the year as a whole, which is in the range of 3.5% to 4%. Last year the Mexican economy grew by a mere 3%.
