BRAZIL | Reducing dependency on Bolivian gas. Bolivian President Evo Morales's 'nationalisation' of his country's hydrocarbons sector, plus his demand for a higher price for the gas Bolivia is selling Brazil, has provoked an immediate, drastic response from the Brazilian government. On 18 May President Lula da Silva presided over an emergency meeting of Brazil's national energy policy council, at which a series of measures were adopted to reduce the country's dependency on Bolivian gas as soon as possible.
