NICARAGUA: Ortega coaxes Contra leaders to ditch Montealegre

Just as Daniel Ortega appeared to be slipping in the polls, he has pulled out of his hat two new alliances which are likely to have an impact on his standing. He has won over several top leaders of the Partido Resistencia Nicaragüense (PRN, the party of the former Contras which is formally supporting Eduardo Montealegre) as well as the sister of another of his rivals, former vice-president José Rizo. For good measure, Ortega has denounced an OAS plot to disqualify Nicaragua's electoral process and hence his victory.
