GUYANA: Top NYC cop to head police reform

President Bharrat Jagdeo has hired former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik to head his planned reform of Guyana's police force, perceived as having been fighting a losing battle against expanding organised crime (mainly devoted to drug trafficking and gunrunning). The appointment has come in for strong criticism on account of some unclear items in Kerik's background.
