Tracking trends

COLOMBIA | Balance of Plan Colombia presented. The national planning department, DNP, reports that US$10bn were invested in the counternarcotics and counterinsurgency Plan Colombia between 1999 and 2005. Of this amount, US$3.52bn were put up by the US and the remaining US$6.48bn by the Colombian taxpayers. The biggest portion of the funds (57.45%) was allocated to the drive against drugs and organised crime; 36.57% went to 'strengthening institutions', and 15.98% to social and economic reactivation.
