Tracking trends

MEXICO | Growth running just above 4.5%. The finance ministry reported last week that GDP in the second quarter of the year grew by 4.7%, though the data was buried next to the far more appealing information that the total supply of goods and services had expanded by 7.1% (the latter figure includes imports of goods and services to GDP). Economic activity in June, as measured by the Igae index, had been reported a week earlier as up 6.8% on 2005 [WR-06-36].
