COSTA RICA: The dangers of turning down Cafta-DR. The ministry of foreign trade published the results of a survey of the directors of 787 businesses in Costa Rica (40% of exporting firms) last week on what they felt would happen in the country if Cafta-DR were not approved. Directors said they might have to lay off up to 32,000 people - 14% of their workforce. The survey will put pressure on the legislative assembly to approve the treaty.
