Luis D'Elía, the leader of the biggest piquetero movement and a staunch ally of President Néstor Kirchner, was dismissed from his post as housing secretary last week. D'Elía was jettisoned after visiting the Iranian embassy to denounce a ruling by the judiciary blaming Iran for the bombing of the Amia Jewish community building in Buenos Aires in 1994, in which 85 people were killed. His decision to intervene, in a delicate issue, went against Kirchner's wishes and undermined the government's negotiating position with Iran.
