BRAZIL: Can Lula appease the Left?

President Lula da Silva held talks with the leadership of his Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) on 16 November to discuss the party's role in his future government. The declarations that followed failed to conceal deep divisions within the party. Significantly, this schism indicates the growing impatience of the Brazilian Left with the government's policies.
