COLOMBIA: Paramilitary scandal rocks Uribe

It took him more than a week to respond to allegations that up to 80 legislators loyal to him have been consorting with paramilitaries but when he did President Alvaro Uribe came out fighting. On 17 November Uribe challenged the opposition in congress and paramilitaries that claim up to one-third of congress is in their thrall to supply proof. He also expressed full support for the supreme court's investigation into the alleged links.
