Cafta-DR will dominate the legislative agenda in Costa Rica for the next two months after the ruling Partido Liberación National (PLN) managed to muster sufficient support in congress to fix a time limit to the debate. Ironically this comes at a time when the Bush administration is facing mounting opposition from a Democrat-controlled Congress to renegotiate FTAs. Although Cafta-DR has already been ratified by the US Congress, Ottón Solís, the leader of the main opposition Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC), travelled to Washington to meet congressmen and show that Cafta-DR is "inappropriate".
