Tracking trends

PERU | Mining motor of export growth. Exports increased by 35.6% to US$23.4bn in 2006, the Comisión para la Promoción de Exportaciones (Prompex) revealed. Exports were driven by the mining sector. Mining exports amounted to US$14.5bn, or 62% of total exports, almost double the figure for 2005. Gold exports totalled US$3.95bn and zinc, US$2bn. The US accounted for almost one quarter of Peru's total exports, followed by China (10%).
