Uruguay: The central bank cut the benchmark interest rate to 8.0%. Venezuela: The official unemployment rate was 7.7% in May, compared to 7.0% in May 2008,   the first time since 2003 that unemployment has risen. The national statistics institute (IBE) reported that 998,920 people were unemployed in May 2009, of 12.89m active workers.
