César Gaviria will remain leader of the opposition Partido Liberal (PL) after attracting the support of a resounding 80% of delegates during a party conference at the weekend. The vote attracted less attention, however, than the approval of a proposal to hold a national referendum on a humanitarian exchange with the Farc at the same time as regional elections on 28 October.
