BRAZIL-ARGENTINA: Lula & Kirchner launch `BA Consensus'

Getting down to it
As a token that he intends to go beyond words, Lula has already launched the new partnership in the practical arena, by inviting representatives of the Argentine government to accompany Brazilian foreign minister Celso Amorim on his trip to India to lay the ground for a state visit by Lula, scheduled for next year. They will attend the Brazil-India Seminar and the meeting of the Brazil-India Trade Council. Businessmen from member-countries of Mercosur have also been invited.

This pattern is to be repeated in Brazil's planned overtures to the Arab world, beginning in November.

The unexpected intervened as well, in the shape of the political crisis in Bolivia. Brazil and Argentina quickly decided to act jointly in an effort to mediate a solution — and as we report elsewhere, seem to have played an important role in the outcome.
