CAN divided over EU deal

At the time of writing, heads of state of member countries of the Andean Community (CAN) are gathering in Tarija, Bolivia, for a summit that was supposed to showcase the deepening integration of the trading bloc by officially welcoming back Chile as an associate member after 32 years. Instead, heads of state will be struggling to present a united front, with member countries fundamentally split over how to pursue a trade association agreement with the European Union (EU).
