ARGENTINA: Buenos Aires slips away

With the 10 July elections in the city of Buenos Aires (Caba) just around the corner, the last thing President Cristina Fernández and her ruling Frente para la Victoria (FPV) needed was an explosive scandal that has all but confirmed the repetition of the 2007 outcome in the city. Though pollsters are unable to calculate the precise impact of the alternatively named ‘Viviendagate' or the ‘Shocklender scandal' [WR-11-23], one thing is clear: the scandal has forced the FPV's mayoral candidate, Daniel Filmus, very much on the defensive, overshadowing his campaign.
