Fernández ends political speculation

It was long-expected yet still surprising (due to its timing) when on 21 June President Cristina Fernández of Argentina formally announced her re-election bid ahead of the 23 October general elections. Although Fernández failed to name a running mate, it is clear that all campaign decisions, at all levels and in all districts, will be hers alone to make. This appeared to upset Buenos Aires Governor Daniel Scioli, who abruptly left the government palace without making any press statements, which commentators suggested could be due to the president's decision to dictate a running mate for Scioli's re-election ticket that he doesn't approve of.
