EL SALVADOR: Saca unimpressed with size of US funding

Even the staunchest of allies struggle to contain their disillusionment at times. Such was the case when President Tony Saca travelled to Washington to hold talks with his US counterpart George W Bush last week. Bush promised US$50m a year to be divided among all the Central American countries for Iniciativa Mérida, the US security initiative designed to tackle the twin threats of drug trafficking and transnational crime in Mexico and Central America. Mexico alone is receiving ten times this sum.
