REGION: Caricom fails to dispel existential doubts

"The collective Caricom [Caribbean Community] political leadership has permitted a ‘mood of gloom' to descend upon the wider integration movement". This was just one of many criticisms by regional leaders preceding the 32nd Caricom annual summit held this week in St Kitts & Nevis. While yielding some signs of closer regional cooperation, the summit arguably served to expose the dearth of progress since the 2010 meeting, which had seen Caricom forced to defend its very existence.
