Qualified labour problems

Development: On 23 June the heads of some of Latin America's most important companies, gathered at the Economic Forum in New York, recognized that one of the biggest challenges they face is the lack of qualified labour.

Significance: As the regional economy continues to expand and grow, it is starting to come face to face with some of its structural limitations. In order for sustained growth to continue in the long-run, Latin American countries will have to have to address some persistent deficiencies, such as poor education. However, in the short-run, they are also going to have to become more open to foreign professionals looking to migrate to the region to take advantage of its opportunities.
