Jorge Srodek is a provincial deputy for the sixth electoral district
of the province of Buenos Aires and specialises on rural policy. Unlike many
Argentine politicians, he did not climb through the ranks of a political party
but instead worked in the private sector for most of his life until, as he
states on his public website, the 2001 collapse of the Argentine economy made
him realise he should increase his political participation. He was elected
provincial deputy on the ticket of the Unión PRO in the 2009 election, having
previously run for provincial senator in 2007. This interview was conducted at
his La Plata office on 9 March 2011.
