VENEZUELA: Chávez tries for price controls

President Hugo Chávez’s Ley de Costos y Precios Justos, which is aimed at lowering prices by criminalising speculation, is running into trouble. Some local economists claim that what the law, which came into force on 19 July, will create a blackmarket for staples covered by the law.
