DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Election temperature rises

On 1 August Pelegrin Castillo, the only deputy from the Fuerza Nacional Progresista (FNP), one of the smallest parties in congress, survived an assassination attempt that cost the life of a former airforce lieutenant who was serving as one of his bodyguards. Castillo is the presidential candidate for the rightwing, FNP in next May’s elections.
