MEXICO | Jobs. Unemployment is continuing to rise. President Felipe Calderón, who promised to be the ‘Jobs President’ when he was campaigning for the presidency, has managed to create only around 600,000 jobs a year in his first five years in office. Around 1.2m Mexicans join the labour market each year. Unemployment is currently officially at 5.6%, up from 3.6% when Calderón took office.
