September 11th in Chile

Sunday 11 September was the 38th anniversary of the military coup in 1973 which resulted in the death of the-then president Salvador Allende who took office in 1970. The annual commemorations have become an important symbolic gesture, signifying the need for continued inquiries into the deaths and disappearances of thousands of Chileans during General Augusto Pinochet’s 17 year dictatorship.
