ARGENTINA: The armour plated model

While world stock markets plummeted as the US congress fumbled efforts to lift the country’s debt ceiling, Argentine officials smiled for the cameras and engaged in a hefty dose of Schadenfreude, noting that they had “warned” their foreign colleagues about the dangers of “old” capitalism. According to President Cristina Fernández and her ‘rockero’ Minister of Economy Amado Boudou, the country’s economic model since 2003 has “armour-plated” the economy and the world’s former financial pariah now has the recipe that everyone else should follow.
