BOLIVIA: More signs of strain

The 30 August ruling by the supreme court of justice (CSJ) on the “Black October” case is also likely to place further strain on the already tense relations between Bolivia and the US given the impetus it will provide to the government of President Evo Morales, which is seeking the extraditions of former President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada (2002-2003) and his then defence and hydrocarbons ministers, Carlos Sánchez Berzaín and Jorge Joaquín Berindoague Alcocer respectively, who fled to the US in the aftermath of the violence.
