As was the case in the November 2008 municipal elections, electoral observation is proving a key issue ahead of Nicaragua’s 6 November general election. Unlike the 2008 contest, which took place in the absence of local and international electoral observers and saw a sweeping victory for President Daniel Ortega’s Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) amid claims of widespread fraud, Ortega is now publicly welcoming foreign delegations.
