Pre-trial bombings. Three bombing attacks were staged in Santiago in November in the run-up to the trial of six people accused of involvement in a number of bombings between 2006 and 2010. The first one, on 1 November, targeted the building of the Grupo Copesa, which publishes the newspapers
La Tercera,
La Cuarta and
La Hora and the newsmagazine
Qué Pasa. It caused minor material damage but claimed no casualties. Four days after the event, responsibility for the bombing was claimed by an organisation calling itself Comando Autónomo Voltaire Argandoña / FAI-FRI, which in a communiqué accused the publishing group of harbouring a ‘select group of journalists who play an important role collaborating with the exercise of power in Chile.’ They claim that these journalists helped build the cases against several of their comrades, in the forthcoming trial which they describe as ‘a public lynching’.
