Brazil ‘saves’ the Durban summit

Brazil’s chief negotiator, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, was given credit for the last ditch agreement at the United Nations (UN) Summit on Climate Change in Durban, South Africa, on 11 December. Yet Figueiredo’s diplomatic success was overshadowed by  critical scrutiny of controversial new reforms to Brazil’s forestry code that environmentalists say could unleash a new wave of Amazon forest deforestation.
