AGRICULTURE: La Niña wreaks havoc

The weather right across South America, and even in Central America, has become increasingly extreme. In the Southern Cone, high pressure has sent the temperature soaring and some places have had no rain at all since the beginning of December. In Asunción the temperature for most of the past six weeks (beginning of December to mid-January) has not dropped below 40 degrees centigrade.
