Ecuador | Army chief resigns. On 1 February President Rafael Correa of Ecuador accepted the resignation for “personal reasons” of General Patricio Cárdenas, the commander of the army who had just two months left in his two-year term. President Correa decreed the appointment of General Marco Aurelio Vera as his replacement.
