MEXICO: Drought threatens central Mexico

The effects of the drought are moving ever closer to central Mexico, the national water authority (Conagua) is warning. Northern states have been suffering from a lack of rain for months. If the drought were to reach central Mexico, the country’s most affluent and populous area, it would present a huge logistical challenge to the government which so far has struggled to deal with the emergency in the north, and to grasp the full extent of the threat it represents.
