Wong quits, more to follow. Finance Minister William Chong Wong resigned on 13 February, citing the pressures of his job and hinting that he could not meet the conflicting demands of the public for additional social spending and of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to meet stringent fiscal targets as part of its loan agreement with Honduras. The IMF has just been in Honduras for a review of its US$215m stand-by accord and ticked off the finance ministry for missing its fiscal deficit targets in 2011. President Porfirio Lobo also accepted the resignation of Francisco Zelaya, his industry and commerce minister, amid a scandal over 4,000 tonnes of illegally imported rice. According to local press reports, Lobo is preparing a wider cabinet reshuffle for later this week, with a further six officials under review, including cabinet ministers and the heads of state agencies and companies like Hondutel.
