Electoral rubbish. On 27 February, Mexico City’s government reported that it had removed over 74 tonnes of electoral propaganda material from its streets. According to the authorities they have removed banners and campaign posters throughout the city that violate Mexico’s electoral laws. Despite the fact that Mexico’s main political parties have all already selected their presidential candidates, Mexico’s electoral body, IFE, has ruled that the official campaign period for the 1 July presidential elections will not officially begin until 30 March. In addition Mexico City is experiencing a barrage of political propaganda given that the city’s mayoral elections will also be held on 1 July.
