Nicaragua | Agreement ends indigenous tensions. On 4 March mestizo hostages held by an indigenous community in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (Raan) on the Caribbean coast were released after Miskito leaders signed an agreement with the government to review the alleged land invasions in the region. Under the agreement, which ends weeks of tension, the National Demarcation and Titling Commission (Conadeti) will examine the land situation in order to uphold the 1987 law on indigenous autonomy, respecting indigenous rights to communal land.
