BOLIVIA: Venezuela provides new inspiration

Just as President Evo Morales is often deemed to take his cue from his Venezuelan peer Hugo Chávez, Bolivia’s opposition is now looking to Venezuela for inspiration; the recent success of Henrique Capriles Radonski, who won the primary elections for the Venezuelan opposition coalition, has been hailed as an “example” and “cause for hope” by leading opposition figures such as Samuel Doria Medina of the centre-right Unidad Nacional (UN). Doria Medina has since called for a similar process of opposition primaries, ahead of the 2014 election.
